Leitchfield Christian Academy High School students recently visited the Grayson County Courthouse. Judge Executive, Gary Logsdon gave some of the history of the building as he and the students toured the building. They were surprised to learn that this is the fourth building to serve as the courthouse with the previous three lost to fire. The current courthouse was built in 1937 and is approximately 65 feet tall. The high school students were interested in the memorials for veterans of WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam Conflict on the west side of the grounds. They were very moved to see the names of the men and women of Grayson County that gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect their freedoms. Two of the students own great-great-grandfather’s names were on the plaques. When asked about the display of the Ten Commandments, Logsdon indicated he was trusting God for the outcome of the pending lawsuit to continue displaying the document in the halls of the courthouse. Judge Logsdon introduced the students to several other county officials including County Attorney, Tom Goff and County Court Clerk, Carletta Farris. Mrs. Farris fielded questions about election procedure and is arranging for a retired voting machine to be on hand for the up-coming mock elections to be held at LCA for “school” president. Michelle Meredith, one of the High School teachers, was very thankful to Judge Logsdon for allowing the students to visit and giving them a glimpse of local government at work for them. |
